I needed that reminder...
Sep. 1st, 2005 02:24 am...to remind me of how pissed off I got at the general attitudes of a few of the people I work with when the discussion came around to the people who got hit by Katrina. My general feeling is that some people will only care about something that happens to others only when and if it directly affects them. Example: the people I work with. The first half hour at work, the only thing I heard was how stupid people were for not evacuating when they had the chance. The only thing that crossed my mind is, "Jesus....what a bunch of fucking insensitive assholes!!!" That they have no consideration for others just blows my mind, cause most of the time, these guys are pretty nice. But to hear them say it was the fault of the people who stayed.....

I wanted to beat them all senseless!!! Just because it doesn't directly affect them doesn't mean they should just pass it off as, "oh, it was their own fault, and now because of them, gas prices, insurance prices, etc, are all going to go up." and "it was their own fault....they knew it was coming...they had plenty of time." Simple words cannot express how much their callous attitudes disgust me!
And knowing that the company I work for probably didn't let anyone evacuate the New Orleans terminal (which is now underwater, thank you very much), and had them keep working......the idea makes me sick. Almost like when we have a huge blizzard up here, and the cops don't want anyone on the roads, and we have to risk our lives to go in anyway. Only not, since a blizzard has yet to cause the kind of devastation that a hurricane can.
I don't even want to watch CNN or anything, because I know I'll start blubbering. Forgive me for being a person that cares about others. (most of the time anyway). Forgive me for being someone who cares about the fates of fuzzy animals.
And if you're not going to forgive me and a whole lot of other people for being compassionate, then fuck you.
(Note: While I would have loved to open my mouth and lambast my coworkers for being callous pricks, I did not. Simply because I work with a bunch of fucking rednecks, and it would have done no good whatsoever to berate them like the children they are.)
