what a night.
May. 15th, 2006 12:18 amI am so tired and I have a throbbing headache. Why? Because on the way home from my dad's I hit a dog. I swerved to miss him, and he just went right into the path of my car.
Needless to say, me being the type of person that I am, I started crying, and turned the car back around to see if he was okay. We found him standing up on the side of the road, so I must not have hit him or hurt him too badly. My mom and I both got out of the car, and he just came right up to me. He went right up to mom too. I think his tail was wagging, but I'm not sure. He didn't have any tags or anything.
I dug around in the trunk until I found an air compressor thing that had a light on it, and when I went to plug it into the cigarette lighter, he jumped in the car.........and then he wouldn't leave.
So I figure we can drive to the police station, and I close the doors. He went nuts and started climbing on the dash, and the back dash where the speakers are. And he also started marking his territory.....and then crapping all over the place. We tried to get him out, but he just wouldn't come out. He eventually took up residence by the pedals. Oh yeah, he was a pit bull puppy. We stood out in the rain under an unbrella for a good half hour before someone finally stopped to see if we needed any help. The lady that stopped ran to the police station for us, and when the cop came (about 15 minutes later), he couldn't do anything because he had someone in the back of his car. He told us that a state cop would be coming. So we waited.
And waited.
And waited.
And waited.
for about 20 minutes. in the rain.
They finally showed up, and told us that we had to wait for animal control, because they didn't want to try getting the dog out because of it being a pit bull. So we got to go sit in the back of the police car to warm up. I must say, those plastic seats are very very uncomfortable. One of them let us use their cell phone so we could call my dad. We had him bring us some rags so we could clean up (neither one of us could sit in our seats because of poo.) We waited about 20 minutes for him to show up.
Animal control finally showed up and very quickly got the dog out of the car. We had to clean up the car a bit before we could leave, but we were able to drive home. So we spent about an hour and a half standing out in the cold and rain.
And now my step-dad is voicing the opinion that we shouldn't have even stopped and that it isn't even worth it to stop. I'm sorry, but if I hit an animal, no matter what kind, I'm going to at least turn around and see if it is okay. I go out of my way not to hit an animal. That's just how I am.
Anyway, I'm going to be calling the animal control center when I get up to check and see if the dog was okay.
And I'm going to hope that I don't get sick from tonight's adventure.
