Feb. 3rd, 2006 01:52 pmI feel the need to go on a rant. I had two of the least qualified people in the world trying to give me advice on dating the other night. Admittedly, one of them has been married for eons, but that makes her even less qualified, since she hasn't had the pleasure of stepping into the viper pit dating pool for about 30 years. And the other one....well, he just isn't that bright at all. Even though he is a legend in his own mind. I'd take dating advice from the Senile Grandmother that was hired in before New Years before I'd take advice from LIHOM. On second thought....no I wouldn't.
So I had LIHOM and Scrapbooking Woman telling me what I should and shouldn't do on my blind date on Saturday. For reference, the date is going to be at a bowling alley. I've got a touch of carpal tunnel in both wrists, and the last time I tried bowling, I ended up in agony. (I'm right handed, btw) So I was talking about using a brace while I was attempting to bowl. Both of them started screaming no, and telling me not to wear the brace, and to act weak just so the guy would feel obligated to help me. *rolls eyes* These are the same people who told me not to act like a Miss Know it all (which, I will admit to doing, but mostly around them, as I feel some misguided need to try and educate them.)
I was also told to "not act like I do when I'm at work" because the first words out of my mouth would scare the guy.* These people do not know me outside of work. They do not know how I act outside of work. For them to even say that was incredibly rude. And if I had a choice between agony or wearing a brace to cut down on chance of agony....gee, I think I'll choose the brace. Thank you very much.
I'm tempted to go on a political rant too...but I'll leave that alone for once. I will say that the newest budget cuts (to fund a pointless war, no less) hit a nerve. Not that the government was all that great at collecting child support to begin with, and making sure that it went to who it was supposed to go to.

*I feel the need to point out that how I act while I'm at work and how I act in public and around new people are two entirely different things. I only act like I do at work because most of my coworkers seem to be complete morons. And bigots/racists to boot!
